Frequently Asked Questions

Biological dentistry is often a new and exciting concept for patients! Below are some frequently asked questions about the biological dental philosophy, our approach, and how it will benefit you!

What is the Natural Approach to Dentistry?
It’s in the name! The key belief of biological dentistry is that your overall (biological) health is tied very closely to your oral health. This means that biological dentists focus on treatments that are biocompatible (non-toxic), and often work together with other healthcare professionals to ensure that your overall health is protected. The goal of biological dentistry is to support and improve the body’s natural abilities to self-heal and regenerate.
How is Biological Dentistry Different than Traditional Dentistry?
Some of the biggest differences between the two is that biological dentists:

– Never use mercury-amalgam fillings. Mercury is a toxic metal, and with the rise of safer materials like dental composite, there is no need to use it for dental fillings.
– Utilize SMART (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) protocols when removing these fillings, minimizing exposure to mercury for both patients and team members during treatment.

Another significant difference is that while traditional dentistry focuses on treating dental problems in the mouth, holistic dentistry focuses on treating their underlying causes. For instance:

– A traditional dentist may simply clean your gums with fluoride to help prevent gum disease.
– A holistic dentist, on the other hand, may discuss changes you can make to your diet or lifestyle to lower your risk of gum disease without the use of fluoride.
– They also collaborate with other health professionals who can assist you in making these changes.
